"The first time i saw the agave root where my chin should have been, in the mirror, with tequila on my fingers, I screamed the most magnificent scream I'll ever yell. I said, 'That's just great, mom! But... what will the begonias do while I'm away?' She said, 'Stay. You're much more valuable to all of us than you think you are.' The first time I saw the orangutan where my chi used to be, I got heavy with the curse words waiting on my tongue. I said, 'Damn it all to hell, girl, go if you've got to go. If you've got to, leave. Don't be lazy. Sally Anne-Montgomery: go if you've got to go.' She said, 'No. You're much more valuable to all of us than you think you are.' I fantasize sometimes about the person I could be and I resent him. How did he get shoes? How does a man like that get shoes? Where does he sleep? What does he know that I don't know? Does he swim deep? And see the coral I can't find? And see the clownfish there unwind after a long hard day of glowing with a fire we can't see? What does he dream? Does he dream of me? The first time I saw the accountant where my beard used to be, I got really into fishing out on Powell Lake. And in a fit of wet despair I out my heels on the stern and shouted loudly to the world of my intention to be angry and ironic for the rest of my life. And I bent my knees.... The fish said, 'Please, you're much more valuable to all of us than you think you are.'"

Chapel Walls 02:37
The grass is holding on to the old chapel walls, and I'll pray to whom I please when I sink on a Saturday. I'll pray, but I want to scream; all I need is a familiar face. And I'll pray to... I don't know, adderall, ayahuasca, iodine. By the time my mother died I was I liar.

Lee Oskar 03:51
I'm probably up for an oscar, the way I act on what I've seen. I'm bound to win an award, now there's hardly an Oscar as wild as me. And when I give my acceptance speech there's chance I'll forget your name. But I'll still have the speech notes we made when we talked about winning awards someday. The worst of my lovesick has all but wrapped up, stopped off, picked out, a fix that could move me. If there were a line that could bury or break me, it'd come from the heart. So you're perfectly welcome to take me and drag me through anything, treat me the way that you're used to. I like the idea of a worse case scenario a lot more than sitting at home.

"Big Gulp" 04:12
'Big Gulp.' That's what they called me in highschool. Couldn't get through the kitchen door, couldn't get out again. Now I'm seven feet tall and I'm skinny! Handsome and loaded with money! Couldn't get through to you.
